Photography competition

Images can be taken on any type of camera, including but not limited to smartphones, DSLRs, film and even drones!

Theme: News – Subjects can be family, friends, events or anything that is newsworthy to you

Categories:

  • 11 to 18 age group
  • Adult 19+ years

Judging: All photographs will be displayed and judged by the public on 25th October.

Entry: Two entries per person – entry is free of charge. Please take your photos to the Library by 22nd October or bring them to the Guild Hall on 25th October by 9.30am. Collection will be from Guild Hall after 3pm (or leave us a SAE if you cannot collect).

Prizes will be awarded in both age categories. Prizes will be vouchers to spend in participating Cheadle retailers.

General Rules for All Participants

Eligibility:

  • Categories: Participants must enter the correct category:
    • School-aged Children: 11-17
    • Adults: Anyone aged 18 and above.
  • Original Work: Entries should be original work of the participant. Photos used or published elsewhere can also be submitted

Submission Guidelines:

  • Submission Format: Entries must be printed (sorry we are unable to accept digital submissions) Photos can be printed on any type of paper. As long as they’re printed, they can be entered!
  • Theme: Sharing The News! Entries should be appropriate for a family-friendly audience. Subjects can be family, friends, events or anything that is newsworthy to you!
  • Editing: Photos can be edited as much or as little as you like. Straight out of the camera or get creative!
  • Identification: Each entry should have the participant’s name, contact information, and category clearly written on a label stuck to the back of the photo or mount board. Please add social media addresses if you would like to be tagged in relevant posts.

Deadline – entries can be submitted to either of the following places:

Submission Process:

  • the Guild Hall on 25th October by 9:30am.
  • the Library by 22nd October.

Number of Entries: Each participant may submit two entries only.

Judging Criteria:
Public vote on the day.

Specific Rules for 11 to 17 year olds

  1. Parental Consent: Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. Over 16s must bring a signed consent form that should be submitted along with the entries. Specific Rules for Adults
  2. Professional and Amateur: Both professional and amateur photographers are welcome.
  3. Public Display: All accepted entries will be displayed at the Guild Hall during the Arts Showcase and Artisan Market event.
  4. Community Judging: The community will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite photos. Voting will take place throughout the event and will close at 3pm.
  5. Announcement of Winners: Winners will be announced at The Guild Hall at 3pm, and prizes will be awarded at this time.

Prizes

  1. Awards: Prizes will be awarded for 1st and 2nd places in each category. Cheadle Arts may award additional prizes at its discretion.
  2. Special Mentions: Additional special mentions may be given for outstanding entries.

Legal and Rights

  1. Usage Rights: By entering the competition, participants grant the festival the right to display their photographs at the event. Credit will always be given to the photographer.
  2. Return of Entries: Entries must be collected on the day or provide a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Entries without and SAE that are not collected by the end of the day will not be returned.
