High Street Gallery 2026

Here is a list of our artists displaying their work. There are still some omissions, but we will look to build a complete picture. Bear with us while we collate all this.

Rose Brookes

  1. Personal Biography
I am a retired primary headteacher who enjoyed teaching art at primary level for most of my career. The problem was that I neglected developing art on a personal level. Since retiring I have returned to painting and drawing using a variety of media, mainly acrylic and watercolour. I attend two art classes: Monday Art Group which meets at the Cheadle Fire Station and Jollies Art class in Newcastle under Lyme. I also enjoy life drawing which is a life journey. I can thoroughly recommend art as a therapeutic hobby.
  2. Style and Medium
In this painting, I have used acrylic and copied the image from a painting by Jack Vettriano. I admire his retro style and I love the use of bright colours in this seascape.
  3. About the Picture
This picture symbolises the rock in my life, my better half whom I rely on continually in the tides that life throws at us.

Elizabeth Collinson in Abode

  1. Personal Biography
I’m Elizabeth Collinson and I’m 68. Retirement has allowed me time to dwell on my love of Art. I mainly take my inspiration from nature.
  2. Style and Medium
My usual medium is pastels on pastelmat. I enjoy the control they give me. Being able to put down many layers enables me to give depth to my work and allows for details. I often work in pencils too, and sometimes watercolour and oils.

Catherine Doel in Scrivens

  1. Personal Biography
I attend the Monday Art Group where we work on our own pieces and support each other’s development. We meet in the Fire Station on Mondays between 1.30 and 4.30 – a selection of our work, including a fun group project, can be seen in the Bridal Shop on the High Street.
  2. Style and Medium
I paint using watercolours, and occasionally use Brusho and pastels. I like fresh, bright colours and tend to use a loose style.
Watercolours – painting is supposed to be relaxing, so I don’t know why I stress myself by using the most unforgiving medium. I guess I like a challenge!
  3. About the Pictures
I love painting seascapes, landscapes, birds and trees.

Dawn Fawkes in Aura Beauty

  1. Personal Biography
The love of nature inspires my art which is why landscapes are my first love. I have only been painting for the last 6 or so years when I took retirement at 60. Never painted before but did get my O Level art in drawing at school. It now turns out that painting is my first love and I seem to have lost the ability to draw, consequently I block paint rather than draw my subject. I joined the U3A this year and became part of a wonderful group of people in the art club where we do our own work but can call on anyone there for advice. I have lots of friends in the art club who have been incredibly supportive of my work and have encouraged me to display it more. I feel that in my later years I have a lot to look forward to in developing more skills and more friends. Art has given me a newfound appreciation of the world we live in and given me back the love that I had as a child for nature. I am also a full member of the SSA, having been accepted by adjudication this year.
  2. Style and Medium
I am self-taught so can’t give any technical terms. I work mainly in acrylics on canvas board (some with a small display frame, about 20” x 18”) and tend to block in the first coats of colour very roughly where I think it should be. I rarely draw. I build my colours up and eventually start to add detail, adjusting as I go along. It’s not pretty in the early stages but I do tend to get half-decent results at the end. Currently, I’m also learning watercolour techniques which I’m enjoying.
  3. About the Pictures
Most of my subjects are pictures taken by myself, but I do tend to use artistic licence to improve them if I think they look a little dull. I will be submitting Ipstones St Leonard’s Church, which I did for the Ipstones Show recently. To my astonishment and delight, I won the best painting and also the trophy for Best in Show; that one is framed. I will also submit the derelict building near Hetties Cafe in Froghall, a Red Squirrel, a hedge in Wales at sunset, and about 3 others which are all British National Park subjects.

    I use all mediums.

Fee Fraser (Individual Artist & U3A Art Group) in RSPCA

  1. Personal Biography
I’ve loved drawing since I was a child, very inspired by my dad who loved botanical art and fine details. I’ve never had any formal training, just always loved creating. I find art very therapeutic. I have some complex bone/joint issues which are degenerative and have found art is a great distraction from pain. I’ve sold quite a few paintings over the years, which is always such a joy when someone wants to hang your art on their wall, but I don’t specifically paint to sell my work. Over the last couple of years I’ve had major wrist surgery and shoulder surgery this year which has slowed me down. I’m looking forward to getting back to painting more often very soon. I also want to try new techniques and mediums.
I’m Group Leader of the U3A Art Group. We meet in The Oakley Room at Cheadle Guild Hall every Friday from 10am-12pm. We’re a friendly, relaxed group, not a taught group, but we support each other and have learnt so much from each other about different art mediums and how to use them. Everyone looks forward to our Friday mornings. If you’re interested in joining us, you’ll find details on the Cheadle U3A Website.
  2. Style and Medium
I enjoy working in mixed media. I prefer acrylic paints to watercolour and use ink pens and ink. I also like to try random items to print on my paintings. I prefer bright colours and like my paintings to be eyecatching.
  3. About the Pictures
I love the local pot banks and nature, and I will have a go at painting most things. My latest finished painting is A Charm of Goldfinches. I previously painted a Murder of Magpies and was lucky enough to sell that.

3rd Cheadle Scout Group
Our aim was to introduce our members to a mix of art styles whilst exploring the original sketches from the book. Both our Cubs and Beavers have enjoyed putting together this art piece over multiple weeks. We were inspired by our upcoming Scout post and wanted to incorporate that into our image as a thank you to the local businesses and community for supporting us every year. For more information on this year’s Scout Post or our Scout group, please follow our Facebook page.

  1. Style and Medium
We have used a mix of mediums and techniques to build this image. The background is made up of wax rubbings taken from in and around our scout hut. The edges are painted leaf and hand prints made by the children. The sketches are made up of pencil free-hand drawings and pencil traced drawings from both age groups. We then built the post box from paper and glue whilst adding details with ink.

Margaret Haywood in Craft Hub

  1. Personal Biography

  2. Style and Medium
This reverse perspective painting is done in acrylic with an undercoat of gesso on a home-made board.

    The picture is titled ‘Hanley’.

Wendy Irwin in Vogue

  1. Personal Biography
I have always enjoyed arts and crafts of all kinds, leading to a 30-year career teaching Art and Design Technology. After retiring, I got back into photography by joining a local camera club, finding a whole new world of creative photography. I have been making creative photographic composites with textured layers for about 10 years as my main hobby, and an image can take many hours to put together. Over the years, I have won international salon awards and recently had work included in the Edinburgh International Print Salon as part of the Fringe, which was a great honour.
  2. Style and Medium
I spend many hours using Adobe Photoshop layers and paint effects to create fine art pictures that look like a watercolour painting. My process involves using different cut-out images and paint effects to create images that have never existed. I have spent 10 years developing this style, using my own photographs and my own painted textured layers created on watercolour paper.
  3. About the Pictures
I have concentrated on childhood adventures featuring my grandsons and an assortment of animals and soft toys. These images use subtle colours to create an illustrative look. The pieces show the adventures that the boys and their animal friends undertake, including riding bush dogs and adventures with penguins, along the lines of Winnie-the-Pooh and his adventures with Christopher Robin.

Started as a hobby following retirement 4 years ago. Needed something to keep my mind and hands busy. I am self taught. Macrame was one of the few crafts I had never tried before. I am now obsessed! My hobby is now turning into a small business. I love to be creative, find it relaxing and take great pride in my work. I am constantly learning and love the challenge of a new project. It is amazing what you can create with a knot and some cotton cord!
